Niche Marketing: What it Isn’t
Niche Marketing is the simplest and least expensive type of marketing. Done correctly it is far and away the most effective. You have a greater chance of making money using niche marketing strategies than any other type marketing you can think of.
Sometimes it’s easier to understand a concept if it’s presented from a negative angle. I’ll do that with this article by explaining what niche marketing isn’t rather than what it is.
Niche marketing is not about trying to sell your product or service to the world at large.
Why? Because the typical small businessperson can’t afford that kind of multi-million dollar advertising budget. It isn’t possible and fortunately for you it isn’t necessary. You can, with only a computer, an Internet connection, and a good idea sell to a smaller audience using niche marketing.
The old-style direct marketers learned long ago that the vast majority of typical advertising budgets goes to waste because the advertising isn’t focused (i.e. not focused on a specific niche). It’s not spending unlimited amounts of money on advertising to "EVERYbody" who aren’t interested in your product, it’s spending small amounts of advertising money to "SOMEbody" very interested in your product.
Niche marketing is not about trying to compete.
A wise niche marketer understands that competition is taken out of the equation when they do niche marketing. How can that be? Because they aren’t out in the world lined up next to a million other marketers who are selling the same thing they are selling. They are selling unique products, preferably unique products that they create or have exclusive rights to, to a specific audience that they have created for themselves with their opt-in email list.
Niche marketing is not about selling to different people every day of the week.
Once you have your list built, you can sell to the same people time and time again. By taking as much time as you need and putting forth enough effort to get to know the people who make up your list of buyers you can continue to sell to them.
Niche marketing is not about focusing on the big picture.
It is about focusing on the small picture and the smaller the better. Narrowing your niche down to a very specific part of a larger market assures you of gaining a fair market share of that small part. The good news is that the world is a big place and there are billions of people with money to spend. You only need an infinitesimal portion of the money spenders to create a large enough list of potential buyers of your products or services to make a great living with niche marketing.
And lastly, niche marketing is not about seeing only the large impossibilities.
Niche marketing is only about looking closely at the small possibilities. Small possibilities converted to multiple sales equal big profits.
